Experience Sustainable Mobility in Perth. Take an E-Scooter Ride!

Move over cars, it’s time for e-scooters to take to the streets of Perth!

The City of Perth has announced a two-year trial of e-scooters, allowing members of the public to hire them from more than 80 sites across the City.

Mayor Basil Zempilas said the scheme is a sustainability-focused move, allowing visitors, residents, and workers to choose a more environmentally-friendly form of transport.

Two providers have been selected for the trial – Bird and Neuron Mobility (Australia) – and the companies have agreed to fit their e-scooters with geofencing technology, ensuring the devices remain within the City of Perth local government area.

The trial will also have an additional safety feature, forcing riders to return their e-scooters to designated parking spots, reducing the chances of them blocking pedestrian pathways.

Riders are encouraged to download the provider’s app and plan their journey before they ride off, so they can park responsibly at the end of their trip.

The speed limit for e-scooters in WA is 25 km/h and within the City, e-scooters will be able to travel at up to 25 km/h on roads and 10 km/h on footpaths. However, they won’t be permitted on roads with a centre line or median strip, or roads where the speed limit for vehicles exceeds 50 km/h.

E-scooters will be available for hire from Saturday 18 March, with users having to be over the age of 16. There is a full list of rules available on the City of Perth website.

It’s an exciting time for the City of Perth, and a great opportunity to try out a fun, sustainable form of transport. So grab your helmet and get ready to ride!
